Bio
Josias Chavez is a Mexican-American director, writer, and producer based in Los Angeles and Denver. A recipient of the John Huston Directing Scholarship, he earned his MFA from USC’s Film & Television Production program, where he produced and directed both narrative and documentary films—including the Alfred P. Sloan–funded short Shelter and the award-winning documentary Waiting in the Wings (PBS).

His work includes contributions to a range of premium docuseries and features, such as The Mortician (HBO), Surviving Ohio State (HBO), Out There: Crimes of the Paranormal (Hulu), Contraband: Seized at the Border (Discovery+), and Mind Over Murder (HBO).

With roots in psychology and public service, Josias centers his work on untold human stories—especially those shaped by systemic injustice and cultural complexity. Whether in the field or in the edit bay, he’s committed to crafting impactful, character-driven stories that resonate far beyond the screen.
